A Senate Standing Committee on Communications meeting descended into chaos on Thursday as Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and PPP Senator Palwasha Khan engaged in a fierce verbal altercation, trading sharp words and personal accusations.

The confrontation began when Minister Aleem Khan took offense to a question raised in the Senate regarding allegations that a housing society had been favored. He described the query as a “personal humiliation,” prompting Senator Palwasha Khan to respond that asking questions does not constitute making accusations. She further questioned why he viewed the matter as so personal.

Tensions escalated quickly. Senator Palwasha Khan accused the minister of becoming agitated because “you are guilty,” while Aleem Khan retorted sharply, saying dishonest people from around the world had gathered there. He reportedly threatened to expose her “deeds” in front of everyone and questioned her audacity to speak to him in such a manner.

Senator Palwasha Khan fired back with similar defiance, asking how he dared to speak to her that way. The exchange included mutual “shut up” commands, according to accounts of the meeting.

As the situation spiraled, the Secretary for Communications left his seat to placate Senator Palwasha Khan, while other committee members intervened to silence her and move the proceedings forward. She demanded that Committee Chairman Parvez Rasheed issue a ruling on the minister’s conduct and take strict action, adding that if Aleem Khan wished to make personal remarks about her, he was free to do so.

Chairman Parvez Rasheed attempted to de-escalate the row, repeatedly urging both parties to calm down. Following his intervention, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan offered an apology, allowing the meeting to continue despite earlier failed attempts at mediation.
