A military helicopter operated by Qatar’s armed forces crashed into the country’s territorial waters early Sunday morning due to a technical malfunction during a routine mission, officials confirmed.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defense stated that the aircraft suffered a technical failure while conducting regular duties, leading to the crash in regional waters. The Ministry of Interior reported that specialized search and rescue teams, including the Maritime Search and Rescue Team of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security and the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), immediately launched operations.

As of the latest update, six individuals on board have been recovered and confirmed deceased. Efforts continue to locate the seventh person, who remains missing. Authorities have expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

The incident involved personnel from both Qatari and Turkish forces, with Turkey’s Defense Ministry confirming that one Turkish serviceman and two technicians from the Turkish defense firm Aselsan were among those killed.

No evidence suggests foul play or external involvement; officials attribute the crash solely to a technical issue.

The event occurs against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions in the Middle East, though Qatari statements have not linked the crash to broader geopolitical developments.

Search and recovery operations remain ongoing, with further details expected as the investigation progresses.
