Suspected Pakistani Balloon Recovered in Himachal’s Kullu Village

India: An aircraft-shaped balloon suspected to have originated from Pakistan was recovered in Bashla village, located in the Nithar area of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday.

Local residents discovered the object lying in an agricultural field and immediately informed the police, raising initial alarm due to its unusual appearance and markings.

A police team promptly reached the spot, retrieved the balloon, and secured it for further examination. The object reportedly carried inscriptions including the letters “SGA” in both Urdu and English, along with markings resembling those associated with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Preliminary checks by authorities found no suspicious items such as electronic devices, explosives, chips, or any other hazardous materials inside the balloon.

Security agencies have been alerted as a routine precaution, and a detailed investigation has been initiated to trace the balloon’s origin and trajectory.

This recovery is the most recent in a recurring pattern of similar balloon sightings reported across Himachal Pradesh and other northern Indian states near the border in recent months and years. Comparable objects—often aeroplane-shaped and bearing PIA-related or Pakistan-linked markings—have previously been found in districts including Kangra and Una, as well as in parts of Punjab, Jammu, and Rajasthan.

In most prior cases, investigations concluded that the balloons were likely harmless promotional items, toys, or weather balloons that drifted across borders due to prevailing wind patterns, with no confirmed security threats identified.

Police have appealed to the public to report any similar unidentified objects immediately and to refrain from handling them personally. No additional updates on the ongoing probe have been released so far.
