Tomorrow, Switzerland hosts the signing of a historic peace accord between Iran and America — an initiative spearheaded by Pakistan. Friday the 19th marks the date.

But asking “who won” misses the point. Realistically, the entire Gulf lost this unprovoked war that began February 28th.

Iran, after enduring the targeted killing of its top leadership, held its ground. It fought to the bitter end. Now, as part of the deal, Iran has asked America to unfreeze its assets. Reconstruction aid — reportedly $300 billion — is set to be funneled into Iran for rebuilding.

When asked whether America would fund this compensation, the reply was blunt: no, the GCC would foot the bill.

The costs across the region are staggering. Qatar’s liquefied gas plant, a pillar of its economy, is out of service and may not be fully operational until 2030. The UAE, too, took heavy losses.

So what does this tell us? This was a war Iran never sought. Yet today, Iran stands taller in the community of nations. The Gulf, by contrast, emerged from it diminished.

Pakistan, despite its own challenges, has invested in hard power. That investment gives it the authority to say no to aggressors. North Korea’s story is instructive: once it demonstrated nuclear capability, America’s posture changed overnight.


The lesson is stark — without true sovereignty, a state risks being overrun, becoming a cautionary tale.

Credit is due where it’s earned. Our leadership steered us through this looming crisis. But stewardship must now be even more astute — to secure dividends, to become a custodian of peace among Islamic nations, and to forge lasting friendship in a region scarred by war.
