Turkey’s Mediation on Afghan-Pakistan Tensions in Limbo

Turkey’s Delegation Trip to Islamabad for Resolving Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions Remains Uncertain.

Over forty days ago, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a high-level delegation would travel to Islamabad to facilitate consultations aimed at finalizing a ceasefire agreement between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

However, there has been no official report regarding the visit or its possible outcomes. Some political analysts attribute the delay to Pakistan’s lack of planning in the negotiation process.

Political analyst Dawood Shiraz stated: “Turkey had promised to send a delegation soon, but more than forty days have passed and the delegation has not yet gone. This is not a failure of the Afghan government, but of Pakistan’s. Pakistan’s demand from Afghanistan is illegitimate.”

Following the rise in tensions and clashes between Kabul and Islamabad, countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have attempted to mediate, though with no tangible results so far. Still, political analysts stress the need for diplomatic dialogue to resolve the conflict.

Political analyst Idris Mohammadi Zazai said: “Tensions and problems between Afghanistan and Pakistan have reached their peak. In such circumstances, countries and organizations must step in to prevent further escalation, disagreements, and instability.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the 15th joint working group meeting with the European Union discussed Afghanistan’s situation, security threats emanating from Afghan soil, and the need for humanitarian aid.

This comes as Islamic Emirate officials previously stated that negotiations between Afghan and Pakistani delegations in Istanbul ended without results due to Pakistan’s irresponsible behavior and lack of cooperation.
