RAWALPINDI (The Nation) — September 10, 2026: District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi has stepped up enforcement against dengue breeding and violations of preventive measures, sealing 594 commercial and residential properties and registering 2,223 FIRs, according to updated official data released on September 9.

Health inspectors have also issued 1,862 challans and imposed fines totaling Rs2.312 million during the ongoing campaign. The enforcement measures target properties where dengue-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) were reportedly violated or mosquito breeding was detected.

The district’s surveillance operation involves 1,400 field teams, comprising 415 outdoor and 985 indoor units. Officials said the teams have inspected around 4.59 million residences, while larval activity has been detected at numerous residential and public locations.

According to the district data, 155,071 larval sites were identified in connection with inspections of 134,633 houses, while another 20,438 public spots were reported positive. The authorities also reported 1.58 million public locations as positive for dengue larvae.

The highest concentration of reported larval activity was recorded in areas including Misrial Road, Afshan Colony, Allama Iqbal Colony, Dhamyal, Naseerabad, Dhoke Mustaqeem, Pirwadhai, Morgah and Chak Jilal Din. Misrial Road, Allama Iqbal Colony and Afshan Colony were specifically identified as high-detection areas within the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board jurisdiction.

Officials said surveillance has covered all 17,859 hotspots registered with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Entomological monitoring showed that 41 union councils had a Breteau Index above 10, while another 26 recorded an index between 7 and 10.

The district health data also indicates that six dengue cases have been confirmed after screening 3,854 people. Of those screened, 3,555 were classified as suspected cases, 292 were found not to have dengue and one was listed as probable.

No dengue-related fatalities have been reported in the district, while officials said no new cases were recorded during August and September in the data cited in the September 9 report. Four of the six confirmed cases were recorded in July in areas including Dhoke Hassu Janobi, Kotha Kallan and Kountrila.

The latest reporting also shows that anti-dengue surveillance remains active across the wider region, with health teams continuing inspections and public awareness activities to identify breeding sites and reduce the risk of transmission.

A health authorities spokesperson urged citizens to “strictly follow dengue SOPs” to prevent the formation of mosquito breeding sites.

The intensified enforcement comes as health authorities continue monitoring seasonal dengue risks. Earlier September reporting had likewise indicated that Rawalpindi had recorded six confirmed cases without any deaths, while thousands of residents had been screened and authorities were maintaining surveillance across identified hotspots.

The district health authorities have urged residents to help prevent mosquito breeding by following prescribed dengue precautions and reporting potential breeding sites to the relevant authorities.
