Security Forces Intensify Operations Across KP, Balochistan; Five Militants Killed

ISLAMABAD — January 5, 2026: Security forces continued extensive counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, resulting in the killing of five militants in separate incidents in Lakki Marwat and the Tirah Valley, while several other security-related incidents were reported from different parts of the two provinces.

• Heightened security amid scattered violence: While counterterrorism operations continued, separate incidents including attacks on police, mineral transport vehicles, and an IED blast highlighted ongoing security challenges across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

According to security sources, three most-wanted terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Sarai Naurang area of Lakki Marwat. The operation was launched after credible intelligence indicated that the suspects had entered the area to plan a major attack. Law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area near the vegetable market on Pardal Bego Khel Road, where the terrorists opened fire upon being challenged. CTD personnel retaliated, killing all three militants on the spot.

The slain terrorists were identified as Mohammad Nazir alias Mujahid, Fawadullah alias Muaz, and Afnan Khan alias Afnani. Police records indicate that they were involved in multiple targeted killings, including the murders of several police officials, Frontier Corps personnel, and other government employees. Security forces recovered one Kalashnikov, two 9mm pistols, two mobile phones, and three cards linked to a banned outfit during the operation. No casualties were reported among law enforcement personnel.

In another operation, security forces successfully foiled an attempt to attack a security checkpoint in the Karbukai area of the Tirah Valley. Militants opened fire on the check post, prompting an immediate response from the forces. Two militants, identified as Abdul Rahman and Saad, were killed in the exchange of fire. Officials confirmed that the check post remained secure and no security personnel were injured. A search operation was later conducted in the surrounding area, while investigations are underway to establish the militants’ affiliations.

Meanwhile, security forces and police also responded to several other incidents across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Balochistan’s Jiwani area, a police head constable was martyred when unidentified assailants opened fire on a police patrol in the Panwan area. One other policeman sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital. Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, while forensic teams began collecting evidence.

Separately, unidentified attackers targeted vehicles transporting minerals in the Wadh area of Khuzdar district late at night, damaging four vehicles. No casualties were reported. Security personnel and local administration reached the site and initiated an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack.

In Turbat, security forces recovered a large cache of illegal weapons after intercepting a suspicious vehicle during an intelligence-based operation. The vehicle and its driver were taken into custody for further investigation, while additional searches were conducted to rule out the presence of accomplices.

Elsewhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at least five people were killed in a shootout between two rival groups in the Ghandi Mir Ankhel area of Karak over an old dispute. Police shifted the bodies to Saberabad Hospital and launched an investigation while cordoning off the area to prevent further violence.

In another tragic incident, a police head constable was killed and three others, including children, were seriously injured when drunken youths opened fire during a wedding ceremony in Lakhdi village of Nowshera. A case has been registered, and police said efforts are underway to arrest the accused.

Additionally, police foiled a major terrorist attack on a police check post near the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa–Punjab border in the Jadewali area of Taunsa Sharif. According to police sources, 15 to 20 terrorists attempted a coordinated assault using heavy weapons and rocket launchers. Security personnel detected the movement through thermal cameras and responded effectively, forcing the attackers to retreat. No casualties were reported.

In a separate incident, an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a Lucky Cement bus near Nadir Khel Mor in Lakki Marwat. The bus was en route from Begukhel to the factory when the blast occurred, killing one person. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Security officials stated that operations will continue to counter militant threats and ensure peace and stability in the affected regions.
