The late Abdul Qadeer Khan, also known as A.Q., was born in Bhopal, India, on October 26th, 1936. During his 11th year, his father passed away, and his mother taught Urdu at the Islamia School for girls in Bhopal. From 1957 to 1960, he studied metallurgy engineering at the University of Birmingham, England, where he studied physics and mathematics, after which he received a Ph.D. from British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) in 1963 with his thesis entitled “The Distribution of Impurities along the Length of Cast Iron Wires.”
