ISLAMABAD (Radio Pakistan) — September 22, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in New York to represent Pakistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The prime minister arrived on Monday with a streamlined Pakistani delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 25. According to the government, his speech will focus on Pakistan’s perspective on the evolving regional and global security environment, with emphasis on dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The prime minister is also expected to outline Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting peace and stability.

His agenda includes issues such as sustainable development, climate change, counterterrorism, Islamophobia and global economic challenges. The Foreign Office has also said Pakistan will raise issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine during the UNGA engagements.

The 81st UN General Assembly’s high-level debate is taking place from September 22 to 26, with an additional sitting scheduled for September 28. This year’s official theme is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

During his stay in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to participate in high-level meetings and hold bilateral discussions with other world leaders as well as the UN secretary-general. The government says these engagements will focus on regional peace, international cooperation, development and Pakistan’s wider foreign-policy priorities.

The prime minister’s arrival comes as the UNGA high-level week begins against a backdrop of conflicts and heightened tensions in several regions. International leaders are expected to discuss security, diplomacy, climate change, development and other global issues during the gathering.

The Foreign Office had announced ahead of the visit that Pakistan would use the UNGA platform to reaffirm its commitment to the UN Charter, multilateralism and peaceful resolution of disputes, while presenting its position on issues affecting the Global South.
