NEW YORK (Radio Pakistan) — August 14, 2026: Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail has called for a more inclusive, ethical and human-centred approach to artificial intelligence, stressing the need for greater youth participation in shaping the technology’s future.
Addressing the Youth and AI Summit at the United Nations headquarters, Mandokhail said young people should have a meaningful role in discussions surrounding artificial intelligence and its global governance.

The governor highlighted Pakistan’s National AI Policy 2025, which provides a framework for developing a knowledge-based economy through investment in AI education, research, innovation and collaboration.
Under the policy, Pakistan has set a target of training one million AI professionals by 2030. The framework also includes measures aimed at expanding AI skills and encouraging participation by women and other underrepresented groups.
Mandokhail said the policy could help strengthen cooperation among the government, academic institutions and the private sector as Pakistan expands its AI capabilities.
He called for artificial intelligence to be developed in a way that benefits people broadly rather than creating new forms of exclusion.
The governor also reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to work with the United Nations, member states, academia, industry and young people on AI-related initiatives.
He said the objective should be to ensure that AI becomes a force for “greater opportunity, inclusion, sustainable development and human progress for all.”

Mandokhail’s remarks come as Pakistan works to implement its National AI Policy, which includes targets for skills development, AI research, locally developed products and public-sector applications. The policy also provides for stronger safeguards around data security, cybersecurity and responsible AI use.
Pakistan’s government launched the nationwide AI Seekho 2026 programme earlier this year as part of its efforts to expand AI-related skills. The programme aims to provide training opportunities to young people, including those without technical backgrounds.
The governor further stressed the importance of international cooperation in ensuring that advances in artificial intelligence contribute to sustainable development.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to work with international partners to promote an AI ecosystem focused on “greater opportunity, inclusion, sustainable development and human progress for all.”
