According to his publishers, HarperCollins, Adam and Eve is Archer’s 31st novel and is set for release in English in October, exactly five decades after his debut novel Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less was published in 1976. Archer has sold more than 300 million copies worldwide, with Kane and Abel remaining his most successful title.

In a public statement, Archer said the research and writing demands of Adam and Eve convinced him that it would be his final novel, adding that he could not hope to match its scale again. However, he noted that he may still continue writing short stories.

While Archer’s books achieved massive global readership, his literary career often ran parallel to a controversial public life, including his time as a Conservative MP, later appointment to the House of Lords, and a prison sentence in 2001 for perjury-related offences. Despite these controversies, Archer remained a prominent figure in popular fiction and continued publishing bestsellers well into his later years.
