Sentebale, established in Lesotho in 2006 to support children and young people affected by HIV and AIDS, has faced reputational and financial challenges following Prince Harry’s departure from the charity in March. Reports indicate that donations declined after former trustee Sophie Chandauka accused the organisation of racism, bullying, and misogyny.

A source associated with Sentebale said the possibility of Prince Harry resuming an active role has now been ruled out, citing damage to the charity’s image.
Dr Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer, was appointed chair of the trustees in 2024, a decision that reportedly faced resistance from within the board. However, a subsequent independent review concluded that there was no evidence of bullying or harassment.
Earlier concerns suggested the charity might be forced to scale back its programmes due to funding constraints. Sentebale has since dismissed those claims, stating that it remains financially stable.

In a statement, the charity said its audited accounts, filed with the UK Charity Commission on September 30, 2025, confirm Sentebale’s financial stability and its ability to continue operations as planned. It added that strategic plans for 2025 and 2026 remain unchanged.
Sentebale also clarified that its global restructuring, including the winding down of its Botswana programme, had been under consideration since 2023 and approved in phases by the board from early 2024. The organisation declined to comment on individual employment matters.
Prince Harry has not publicly commented on the reports regarding his future involvement with the charity.
