Selena Gomez Seeks Dismissal of Wondermind Fraud Case

LOS ANGELES (BBC) — August 28, 2026: Selena Gomez has asked a US federal court to dismiss fraud claims brought by investors in Wondermind, the mental health startup she co-founded with her mother, Mandy Teefey, and entrepreneur Daniella Pierson.

The investors filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Delaware on August 13, alleging that they were misled about Wondermind’s leadership, operations and business prospects. They say two investment entities put nearly $1.2 million into the company in 2022.

The investors allege that Gomez was expected to play an active role in building and marketing the company, including using her substantial public profile to promote the business. They also claim that promised initiatives, including a mobile application and other commercial opportunities, failed to materialise.

Gomez’s legal team has strongly rejected the allegations. In a motion filed on August 26, her attorney Mathew Rosengart argued that Gomez did not manage Wondermind and was not responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations or investor communications. Her lawyers say she was a minority investor, consultant and Chief Impact Officer, while management was handled by Teefey and Pierson.

Rosengart described the allegations against Gomez as “vague, generalised and contradictory” and maintained that she never agreed to manage the company or undertake the responsibilities alleged by the investors.

“The claims against her are meritless if not frivolous,” Rosengart said, according to the legal response cited in reports.

The lawyer has also said Gomez’s legal team is considering seeking sanctions against the plaintiffs, arguing that she should not have been included in the case.

The investors, however, maintain that Gomez had a significant role in the company’s public-facing strategy and that representations about Wondermind influenced their decision to invest. Their lawsuit also raises allegations concerning the company’s financial and operational difficulties.

Wondermind was launched in 2021 as a mental fitness platform offering content and other resources related to mental wellbeing. The company later faced financial and operational difficulties, which became the subject of public reporting before the current legal dispute.

The case is still pending in federal court. Gomez’s request for dismissal has not yet been decided, and the allegations made by the investors have not been established as facts by the court.
