LOS ANGELES (Motion Picture Association) — May 6, 2026: Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan has revealed the official trailer for his upcoming film The Odyssey, offering audiences a first look at what is being described as one of the most ambitious cinematic projects of the year.
The trailer debuted during Nolan’s appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where the director discussed his vision of adapting “The Odyssey”, the ancient Greek epic traditionally attributed to Homer.

The newly released footage introduces Charlize Theron as the enchantress Calypso, who holds Matt Damon’s Odysseus captive on the island of Ogygia. The emotional tone of the trailer focuses on Odysseus’ longing to return home.
In one of the trailer’s defining moments, Calypso asks, “Tell me what you remember.” Odysseus responds simply: “A wife… A son.” The sequence then shifts to scenes featuring Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland portraying Telemachus.
The preview also reveals Robert Pattinson as Antinous, one of the suitors seeking control of Ithaca during Odysseus’ prolonged absence. In a key line from the trailer, Antinous declares, “This is a household waiting for a master. I want you to choose me.”

First Feature Shot Entirely on IMAX Cameras
Nolan confirmed that The Odyssey marks a technological milestone as the first major motion picture filmed completely with IMAX cameras, developed alongside longtime cinematography collaborator Hoyte van Hoytema.
Explaining his motivation behind revisiting the ancient narrative, Nolan said: “The Odyssey is a story that has fascinated generation after generation for 3,000 years… It’s not a story. It’s the story.”
The production spanned multiple international locations, including large-scale sea sequences and demanding natural environments, highlighting Nolan’s commitment to practical filmmaking.
Reflecting on the challenging shoot, Nolan remarked: “This has been an absolute nightmare to film — but in all the right ways… We had an amazing time.”
He praised Damon’s dedication, describing the actor as his “partner on this journey” while noting the physically demanding conditions faced by the cast and crew.

Star-Studded Ensemble and Global Expectations
The film features an extensive ensemble cast that also includes Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and Himesh Patel.
Speaking about assembling such a large cast, Nolan humorously noted that bringing everyone to promotional events would have been impossible due to the “massive weight of extraordinary talent.”
With large-scale mythological storytelling, cutting-edge IMAX technology, and a globally recognized ensemble, The Odyssey is positioning itself as a major cinematic event upon its worldwide theatrical release.
