Several Counter-Terrorism Operations carried out in 2025, says DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD — January 6, 2026: Addressing the Press Conference, DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif said that the purpose of the news conference is to cover the measures against terrorism – the Khawarij have no connection with Islam, or with Pakistan.

In 2025, the military and people of Pakistan remained united against terrorism – the war against terrorism is the war of the entire nation. In 2025, the state and the people received complete clarity on terrorism, Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan have no connection with either Pakistan or Balochistan.

Last year was a landmark year for counter-terrorism:

• 75,175 operations were conducted against terrorists
• 1,235 Pakistanis were martyred
• 2,597 terrorists were killed
• 14,658 operations were conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
• 1,739 operations were conducted in other parts of the country 

In 2025, 27 suicide bombings took place, and 75,175 operations were carried out. There were 3,811 incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The world has appreciated Pakistan’s anti-terrorism measures.

In 2021, 193 terrorists were killed, and 592 people were martyred, meaning that for every terrorist killed, there were 3 martyred. On the other hand, in 2025, 2,597 terrorists were killed, and 1,235 martyred. So 2 terrorists were killed for one martyr. Last year, there were 27 suicide bombings, of which female bombers were used in 2 explosions.

DG ISPR further stated that questions are often raised about why nearly 80 percent of terrorist incidents occur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Addressing journalists from the province, the spokesperson said this concern is frequently shared and emphasized that, according to the military’s assessment, the primary reason is the presence of political-criminal-terrorist nexuses operating in the region.

The political nexus of terrorists and the politically favorable environment for terrorists in KP is the primary reason, DG ISPR elaborated. Pakistan has prepared a new strategy for operations by 2025, which aims to completely defeat terrorists. There is no government in Afghanistan, and all terrorist proxies are mostly operating from Afghanistan, with complete involvement from India. Despite Afghanistan becoming the center of terrorism, Pakistan’s position has been recognized at the global level.

Afghanistan has become a haven for smugglers and terrorist organizations from all over the world. Regional and international terrorist organizations are causing chaos and terrorism in contries neighboring Afghanistan. All political parties are in agreement on the National Action Plan. These terrorists are Khawarij, they have nothing to do with Islam as a religion. Quoting a religious injunction, the speaker stated that such elements are to be confronted decisively wherever they are found, adding that strict action is warranted against those involved in terrorism. He expressed confidence that the country would ultimately prevail in its fight against terrorism.

National Security & Effective Counter-Terrorism remain Top Priority

Addressing the media, the Director General ISPR said that national security and effective counterterrorism measures remain the state’s top priority. He added that Pakistan’s fight against terrorism is a collective national effort and that the entire country has stood together in what he termed a struggle for justice.

Referring to regional security developments, the DG ISPR said security agencies had thwarted what he described as a major terrorist plot by the Indian proxy Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in Karachi, neutralizing a large cache of explosives. He said these actions reflect Pakistan’s resolve to counter terrorism and safeguard regional stability.

Commenting on Afghanistan, the military spokesperson said that despite assurances by the Afghan Taliban that Afghan soil would not be used against any country and that extremism would be curbed, Pakistan continues to face security challenges. He alleged that militant groups are misleading youth and religious communities through propaganda. He further reiterated that certain terrorist elements are operating from Afghan territory.

Terrorism a Threat to National Unity & Peace

The DG ISPR stressed that terrorists pose a threat to national unity and peace, stating that Pakistan’s security is inseparable from the security of its people. He said recent counterterrorism operations demonstrate Pakistan’s preparedness to respond to threats of all kinds.

Clarifying Pakistan’s position, the spokesperson said the military’s primary target remains the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), not the Afghan Taliban. He alleged that the TTP has expanded its activities since 2021 and claimed that Afghan soil has been used to facilitate attacks inside Pakistan.

The military spokesperson further alleged that several major terrorist incidents involved militants of Afghan origin and cited attacks on civilians and public transport, including the Jafar Express and a passenger bus in Nushki. He said security forces continue to engage with local communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen trust and coordination.

Emphasizing unity, the DG ISPR said the fight against terrorism is not solely the military’s war but a national struggle, warning that failure to confront the threat could endanger civilian lives and public infrastructure. He also alleged that India supports and finances proxy groups to destabilize the region, a claim India has previously denied.
