LOS ANGELES (Variety) — September 15, 2026: John Stamos became emotional while speaking about fatherhood and his long-running advocacy for children as he accepted an honor at The Creative Coalition's 12th Annual TV Humanitarian Awards in Los Angeles.

The event, held on September 10, recognized Stamos for his humanitarian work. The actor has supported Childhelp, an organization focused on the treatment and prevention of child abuse, for nearly four decades.

Reflecting on how becoming a father changed his outlook, Stamos said, “Becoming a father has changed the way that I see children.” He added that seeing how much his own son depends on adults for safety and care made him more aware of children who do not have the same support.

“Once you really let that in, it’s hard to look away,” Stamos said during his emotional remarks.

Stamos' close friend, comedian Jeffrey Ross, presented him with the award. The actor also spoke about using his public platform to draw attention to causes involving children, saying his advocacy feels “less like charity and more like responsibility.”

Earlier in the evening, Stamos discussed “Love From Above,” a children's book he has created with his son, Billy. The book explores the family's experience of losing Stamos' parents and a family story involving hummingbirds.

Stamos recalled that after his father died, a hummingbird appeared in his father's garden. Billy interpreted it as his grandfather returning to make sure the family was caring for the garden.

“I'm like ‘That's a hummingbird.’ He said, ‘No, that's your dad coming back to make sure we're taking care of his garden,’” Stamos told Variety.

“Love From Above” is scheduled for release on April 20, 2027. Stamos said he and Billy hope to read the book to children, including visits to hospitals and schools, and that it could offer comfort to children dealing with the loss of grandparents.

Other honorees at the event included Simran Baidwan, Famke Janssen, Cara Buono, Lisa Ann Walter and Mary Lou Belli. Baidwan was recognized for her work highlighting family caregiving, while Walter and Belli were also honored for their advocacy and contributions to the entertainment industry.
