Meghan Markle, Harry Face UK Security Review After Return

Key Developments:
- RAVEC will reassess Harry and Meghan’s UK security arrangements
- Archie and Lilibet change schools over commute security concerns
LONDON (InStyle) — September 16, 2026: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to undergo a new UK security review following their return to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), the Home Office committee responsible for assessing security arrangements for senior royals and other public figures, is reviewing the couple’s security needs now that they are living in the UK. ITV News reported that both Harry and Meghan will have separate Risk Management Board assessments.

For Meghan, the review will be her first assessment since the couple stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020. Harry underwent a separate risk assessment in July, although that assessment took place before officials knew the family would relocate to Britain. The couple are currently receiving interim security measures.
The security review comes as Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, have moved to another school shortly after beginning the academic year. ITV News reported that security staff raised concerns about the children's daily journey, including traffic, travel time and whether the family's vehicle and security vehicle could remain together. The children began their first full day at the new school on September 15.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: “The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements.”

The spokesperson added: “This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”

The family also expressed gratitude to the teachers and staff at the previous school. The name of the children's new school has not been publicly disclosed.
The latest developments follow the Sussexes' return to the UK from California in late August. Their publicly funded security arrangements have remained a longstanding issue since they stepped back from royal duties, with the current review examining their circumstances as UK residents.
