NEW YORK (The Express Tribune) — June 10, 2026: John Loring, the influential designer, author, and longtime creative force behind Tiffany & Co., has died at the age of 86, bringing to a close a career that helped shape one of the world’s most recognizable luxury brands.
Loring passed away in Palm Beach, according to reports released this week. Widely regarded as one of the most significant figures in modern luxury retail, he served as Tiffany & Co.’s Design Director from 1979 until his retirement in 2009, after which he was named Design Director Emeritus.

During his three decades with the company, Loring played a central role in expanding Tiffany’s international presence while helping define the brand’s visual identity and creative direction. In a statement following his death, Tiffany & Co. said it was “deeply saddened by the passing of John Loring, whose creativity and vision helped shape the House’s modern identity.” The company added that “for three decades, he served as Design Director of Tiffany & Co. and remained a devoted steward of its heritage.”

The luxury jeweler further stated that Loring “will be remembered not only for his extraordinary contributions, but also for his enduring passion for beauty and craftsmanship,” while extending condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Born in the United States, Loring graduated from Yale University before continuing his studies at École des Beaux-Arts in France. Prior to joining Tiffany, he worked as New York bureau chief for Architectural Digest and built a reputation in the worlds of art and design. His paintings and prints were exhibited at major institutions, including Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
